The ever changing environment of everyday life is a big source of inspiration within my work. I am fascinated by the little things, the insignificant and the incidental. As well as the personal, concealed and emotional feelings provoked by our surroundings. These elements all trigger something in me. The beauty of observation is a constant awakening to the changes around us and I wish to share my insight through my work.

Having developed a personal drawing style I found a fascination with the fortuitous happenings within the environment and my method of working has evolved from a general to a more personal level. It is an emotional, visual dialogue with the range of ever expanding surroundings.

Observing my surroundings, both natural and urban I have been intrigued by the concept of spacial awareness and this features throughout my work. I have made a point of focusing on a particular area when studying it by drawing series’ of landscapes. Therefore leading to a deep, intense and captivating atmosphere within my body of work.

Initial work is carried out by logging and recording my observations through a range of drawings, illustrations and photographs taken from an expanse of environments. By observing in such a way, looking a little closer at the intricacies of my everyday life, I feel I gain a greater understanding of my subject matter.

My painting style varies between bold and faint, moody painted grounds with the unusual mix of intricate detail layered on top. Suggestive, abstract and obvious marks combine to create a textured effect. I have expanded on this, building up layers, mirroring the hidden qualities the landscapes have to offer, also exploring my interpretation of the abstract notion.
